The General Manager of the Kelowna Falcons will be watching with interest as 19 year-old female pitcher Claire Eccles suits up this season with the arch rival Victoria Harbourcats.
The Harbourcats announced Monday that Eccles will join the team, becoming the first female to play in the West Coast League, which attracts the best college players in North America.
Mark Nonis admits the signing of Eccles is bringing a lot of attention to the league.
"From a public relations perspective, it is opening up that opportunity for future females to come to the West Coast League if it works out. I think the city of Victoria will support this very well".
Nonis admits it will be a learning curve for the knuckleballer pitcher.
"I don't know if she has faced this kind of talent before? She has played strickly women and I don't know if she has traveled down to the states and played difference universities? This league is the creme de la creme and it's the WHL of baseball," Nonis added.
The Falcons are busy preparing for the start of the season, which begins June 2nd against the Port Angeles Lefties.
The team is also looking for billet families to house players this season.
