Kelowna-Lake Country MLA Norm Letnick grilled the NDP Tuesday on the unexpected costs Interior Health will be paying thanks to the employer health tax.
“It's not just family businesses, school boards, and non-profits impacted by the new NDP employer health tax. Interior Health expects a $3.3 million dollar shortfall,” says Letnick.
Letnick asked the Health Minister how Interior Health is expected to pay for their tax increase, but he refused to answer the question.
The Minister of Finance would only say health authorities would see savings in the future, but would not confirm how they will cover the costs now.
Interior Health serves a population of over 750,000 people in the Southern Interior with over 19,000 staff, 1,400 physicians, and 4,800 volunteers.
