Press release from Kelowna RCMP on May 12, 2020 at 1:53PM:
West Kelowna RCMP removed an allegedly impaired driver from the road during the early morning hours of Saturday.
On May 9th, 2020 just minutes before 12:30 a.m., a front line officer spotted a vehicle being driven the wrong way down Main Street in West Kelowna. The officer performed a traffic stop and while dealing with the driver noted signs and symptoms of alcohol consumption.
The demand was provided to the man who was taken back to the detachment for a breath test. He provided two breath samples, both of which were more than twice the legal limit.
The 24-year-old Kelowna man did not hold a valid B.C. Driver’s License and was also found to be in violation of a court order at the time of his arrest.
The full circumstances will be forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service for their review and consideration of charges.
The man's vehicle was impounded and he faces a further driving prohibition under the BC Motor Vehicle Act.
“Impaired drivers can be apprehended anywhere, anytime,” warned S/Sgt. Duncan Dixon, West Kelowna RCMP Detachment Commander. “We are patrolling our communities day and night to keep everyone safe.”
