Kelowna Mayor Basran said on AM 1150’s Early Edition that with all things considered the city is doing pretty well dealing with the global pandemic.
"When you look at other communities reliance on property taxes where it's upwards of 70% in some places, where here in the city of Kelowna it's a third of our revenue, we're in a good position financially and otherwise.”
Basran asks that people who are able to pay their property tax on the due date of July 2nd do so.
"That limits our need to borrow, which we know will come with a cost, or dipping into our capital reserves which then continues to grow our infrastructure deficit.”
Basran encourages those who need help to look at the provincial property tax deferral program.
