Kelowna-Mission MLA Steve Thomson is back at work this week.
The 66-year-old had open heart triple bypass surgery in January, and has been recovering in the months following.
Thomson was emotional as he spoke in the Legislature this week.
"Firstly, I really want to thank my wife Brenda and my son Spencer for everything they did. They were really the rocks during the process and the time I went through, and I put them through a lot," he said.
"I also want to thank members on both sides of the house for their messages and thoughts during this time. It was really appreciated."
Thomson also spoke of Tourism Minister Lisa Beare, as she recovers from her own surgery.
"We all know friends and family, including our legislative family here, that have faced these challenges, including the member for Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows who's currently dealing with this. I wish her the very best in recovery," he said.
"We can all take comfort in knowing that important supports are available in our communities when we need them."
He says the experience has given him a new perspective, and recalled announcing the opening of the Interior Heart and Surgical Centre in 2015. Thomson says he never thought he'd be back giving it a "test ride," but praised the care as world class.
He also mentioned the Central Okanagan Association for Cardiac Health, where he spent time recovering after his operation.
