The Kelowna RCMP Serious Crimes Unit continue to work alongside the BC Coroners Service as both agencies probe the circumstances surrounding the death of a man late Sunday evening in downtown Kelowna.
On July 1, 2018 at approximately 10:50 pm, the Kelowna RCMP received reports of a violent altercation in the 1400 block of Water Street in Kelowna’s downtown core. Police responded to the vicinity of the Queensway bus loop where they discovered a male on the ground suffering from life threatening stab wounds.
The male was rushed to hospital in grave condition where he was later pronounced deceased after succumbing to his injuries.
“That victim has since been positively identified by police,” states RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “In order to further the ongoing homicide investigation, police are now confirming 23-year-old Esa Carriere, who recently relocated to Kelowna from Mississauga Ontario, was the victim in Sunday's homicide.”
“At this time our investigators consider the incident an isolated event,” adds Cpl. O’Donaghey.
Although the investigation is progressing, RCMP continue to urge witnesses to come forward with any and all information as police attempt to establish a time line for Esa leading up to his death. Police are also interested in collecting any videos or images taken before, during or following the incident.
