Press release from Kelonwa RCMP on May 12, 2020:
Between April 22nd and May 11th, 2020 the Kelowna RCMP Community Safety Unit arrested four individuals following the deployment of bait bikes in the city of Kelowna. The four Kelowna area men were identified by police, arrested and released on conditions to appear in court at a later date.
Theft of bicycles in our community continues to be a concern, and the RCMP will continue to target those responsible for committing these crimes, states Cst. Solana Paré of the Kelowna RCMP. The Kelowna RCMP will continue to pursue active property offenders using innovative tactics and we will to do everything we can to stop these trends.
Specifics about the bait bike, where it was deployed and other details will not be released.
RCMP also remind residents to properly record their bicycles serial numbers and have that information easily accessible in the unfortunate event of a theft. The likelihood of having your bike recovered and returned to its owner by a police officer is very low without a serial number on record.
