A parade and a ceremony will be held in Kelowna this weekend to remember Okanagan soldiers who took part in the battle of Vimy Ridge in World War One.
During the battle that began on April 9th, 1917 - 47 local soldiers died, while 151 were wounded. In all, Canada lost 3,500 men in the four day battle.
Captain Jeff Daley says soldiers from the Second Canadian Mounted Rifles, which would become the BC Dragoons, played an big role in securing Vimy Ridge.
"They charged up the hill to the place where the most bunkers, the most machine guns, and the most Germans were consolidated, so the BC Dragoons actually had a pivotal role in that - it's one of our battle honours," he says.
Daley says the parade will begin at 1:00 pm on Sunday at the Brigadier Angle Armoury on Lawrence Avenue - with the ceremony to start at 1:30 pm at the Cenotaph at City Park where a wreath will be laid.
