Smoke is causing poor air quality in the Kelowna area and reducing visibility.
Interior Health has issued a 'smoky skies' bulletin which covers the entire Southern Interior including the Okanagan.
Air Quality Meteorologist Ralph Adams says the air quality index for Kelowna is rated at 8, which is high.
"The values that you are seeing right now and have seen over the last day or two are similar to the values that we see during these big forest fires. I don't think, if I remember correctly, that Kelowna has got up to the levels that it saw during the Okanagan Mountain Fire."
With the poor air quality, Adams says individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches and shortness of breath.
"The current levels was measuring 113 micrograms per cubic metric. Normally at this time of the year in Kelowna you would expect those levels to be between 5 to 10 micrograms per cubic metric, so much higher than normal," Adams added.
