The Apple Triathlon is taking a sabbatical, and won't be returning until next summer.
The event has brought in M1 Sports Management to organize and run the race, with the new organizers now announcing that the next Triathlon will be August 18 and 19 of next year.
M1 co-owner Susie Ernsting says with the Multisport World Championships happening in Penticton this summer, they thought it was best to hold out.
"Logistically with the ITU World Championships happening just down the road, we were just trying to look at what were the best options to continue the event, to really grow the event, and to keep it as a marquee event. So when we were chatting about it, it just really made sense to put on hiatus for one year, and to really come back with a bang for 2018," she said.
"If we're going to do it, we're going to do it right. And by putting it on hiatus this year, it gives us a chance to really make sure we have the best experience for athletes, for our volunteers, and for the community. With the busy calendar in Kelowna, it wasn't possible to move the event for this year."
The event in Penticton is also being run by M1, which has worked on other triathlons including the Vancouver Triathlon and Iron Girl Vancouver.
