A Kelowna man is lucky to be alive after his main parachute failed while skydiving.
RCMP say the 39-year-old was skydiving on Sunday in Salmon Arm.
“During the skydive, the man's main chute had issues and was jettisoned,” said Staff Sgt. Scott West “Parts of the primary chute became entangled in the secondary chute."
Police say the drag from the secondary chute somewhat slowed the man down before he hit the ground.
The man was conscious and responsive when he was taken to Kelowna General Hospital by Air Ambulance.
Rick Scott, a spokesman for Skydive Salmon Arm says the man- an experienced jumper with hundreds of jumps to his credit- suffered a broken pelvis.
Scott says the accident is only the second for the company during its six years in business.
