A 17-year-old from Kelowna has completed a marathon swim designed to help her prepare for a bigger challenge next month.
Cheryl Epp says her daughter Emily Epp braved frigid temperatures, rough waters and nausea to swim around Bowen Island, just north of Vancouver, on Saturday.
The 30-kilometre marathon took justĀ under 11 hours.
Emily's mother says the swim was part of training for an attempt to swim the 32-kilometre English Channel, which is considered to be the ultimate long distance challenge because it provides a variety of difficult conditions, including cold water, high waves and occasional debris.
