A group of locals have come together to start a vegan marketing campaign in the Okanagan.
Kelowna Vegan Advocates have already paid for the first billboard of its' kind in the region. One depicting a dog and pig which reads, "Why love one but eat the other." You can view the billboard on highway 97 coming into Kelowna from the West side.
Spokesperson Wendy Aigner says the intention is to start a dialogue about animal rights and environmental issues that come from overpopulation and unsustainability. "The planet cannot support the amount of meat and animal products that are currently being demanded of it."
And Aigner says Kelowna is ready to start thinking about veganism as a solution. Greater support for "doing things differently." She admits she was raised eating meat and eggs, but "just because something has been done a certain way for a long long time doesn't mean that it's right." "Things change and I think Kelowna is ready for it."
Kelowna Vegan Advocates have a Go Fund Me page set up for donations that will go toward more marketing in the future.
