A California winery that's being threatened by the wildfires down south has close ties to a Kelowna winery.
Tony Stewart, CEO of Quails’ Gate Winery, which is a sister property of Madrone Estate in California, says he's optimistic everything is going to be fine.
“It’s a fluid situation, you know, the winds change and these things are turning around so it’s kinda like the ‘03 fires here, except there’s 8 of them.”
He says the area has been evacuated, and harvest and production has been put on hold.
“The power’s been off at the winery for 3 days so that’s concerning,” Stewart says “We’ve got a generator coming up right now from down south and trying to get temp power in place so we can at least start to do some work in the winery.”
He says one employee has lost their home in the fires, while 3 others are still evacuated.
