Lake Country Councillor Owen Dickie has lost his battle with cancer at age 61.
After moving to Oyama in 1989 and starting a home inspection business, Dickie became keenly involved in the community.
Owen organized adult and teen dances, opened a youth centre, led many Fun Day, Christmas, and Halloween activities, did maintenance at the Oyama Hall, built the Oyama Community Garden and, over the past few years, mowed the grounds and ball field.
He was first elected to council in 2011, and while on council, became a driving force behind the Okanagana Rail Trail project.
Dickie is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marj, three children, four grandchildren and a sister and brother.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:30 pm, Saturday, March 11th at the Oyama Community Hall.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Oyama Community Club, 15710 Oyama Road, Lake Country, V4V 2E1.
