Central Okanagan Public Schools is looking for suggestions in naming a new middle school in Lake Country.
Currently known as Lake Country Middle School, the facility will serve grade 6 to 8 students.
School Board Chair Moyra Baxter says it's important the school's new name reflects the area and its residents.
“That’s their school and part of their community,” says Baxter. “Lake Country is one of those communities in our School District that do have a lot of community activities going on, so we just think that if they can feel that this is their school, then that’s really important.”
Baxter says the school will sit on part of the George Elliot Secondary School site, with the adjacent golf course - the division purchased a few years ago - to be used as sports field.
But she says with a couple of golf academies in the district - they might save a couple of holes for courses on golf.
“Another idea on that golf course is to have some fruit trees and have an academy on fruit growing,” says Baxter. “There are always these things that you can do when you’ve got these sites that you can’t put new buildings on.”
You can head to the district's website until September 28th to suggest a name for the new school.
Construction will begin in the spring of 2019 - with completion by 2021.
