RCMP fire investigators continue to probe a fire in Lake Country, early Monday morning, in Carrs Landing.
Shortly after 1:00 am, police were called, by the Lake Country Volunteer Fire Department, to help with traffic control in the 12700 block of Carrs Landing Road as crews battled a wildfire.
A nearby resident told police he smelled smoke, and spotted the fire, and grabbed tools to battle the blaze while he waited for emergency crews.
“Fire fighters with the Lake Country Volunteer Fire Department worked quickly to build fire guards and get the blaze under control, before it spread into the dry forest or nearby homes,” said Corporal Jesse O’Donaghey.
Police believe that the fire, which was less than a hectare in size, started in the ditch parallel to the east side of the roadway.
“RCMP investigators continue to work closely with investigators with the BC Wildfire Service,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “RCMP have seized evidence from the scene, which suggest that the fire may have been human caused.”
