Starting yesterday, Friday, May 29 beach volleyball courts and four new pickleball courts opened in the City of West Kelowna.
Users must maintain safe social distancing of two metres and limit gathering sizes on the courts and sidelines to required players, officials and subs only.
Beach volleyball courts are located at Willow Beach on Gellatly Road and Pebble Beach on Whitworth Road.
The City has temporarily closed the beach volleyball court at Pritchard Park, on Pritchard Drive, for improvements. Crews expect to reopen that court by June 5.
The City constructed the new pickleball courts this spring at Mount Boucherie Sports Fields to keep up with demands for the sport, which has been growing rapidly in popularity in recent years and has a very active local membership. The four new courts bring the total to 12 at the site, which is located below the western slopes of Mount Boucherie, off East Boundary Road.
The City of West Kelowna will also be posting signs at beaches starting Monday, June 1 reminding people of proper uses while enjoying the waterfront to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
These announcements come on the heels of a news release May 27 in which local governments in the region indicated that playgrounds would be reopening June 1.
