The Kristen Porrelli Legacy Fund has gathered over $57,000 in donations since late last year. Originally the goal was to raise $10,000 but the donations came so quickly the Porrelli family decided to increase the goal and extended the donation deadline to the end of this month. Funds raised will go to the Kelowna Women’s Shelter.
Kristen Porrelli, the only daughter of Kelowna lawyer Barry Porrelli, took her own life at the age of 22. Barry says the Women’s Shelter was a fitting choice to honour Kristen’s memory. “She worked on some charity functions for the Women’s Shelter during her lifetime and on her death we set out in the obituary to support the Women’s Shelter, so it was a cause that was dear to us and to her. We just repeated that again, now about 3 years after her death.”
Porrelli says his family has been pleasantly surprised by how the community responded to the legacy fund. “I had no great expectations about the success we’d have. The momentum mounted and we had people raising funds, many clients, large and small, making donations from 25 dollars to several thousand dollars so we were super proud.”
“The community’s been so supportive of our family and Kristen. It really makes us pleased to see the success we’ve achieved.”
Donations continue until the end of March, HERE.
