Images of Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau wearing blackface have caused waves across the country, including here in Kelowna.
Overnight, Liberal campaign signs for Kelowna - Lake Country incumbent Stephen Fuhr were vandalized. It appears marker was used to make Fuhr appear in blackface.
"I was obviously disappointed and saddened" said Fuhr. "These things cost money, and volunteers put tons of hours into putting these things up."
The candidate says he doesn't feel personally attacked by the vandalism. He is standing by Trudeau.
"He apologized unequivocally that it was wrong. I don't think at the time he realized the bigger context of what he was doing."
Neighbouring Conservative MP Dan Albas condemned the vandalism online calling it illegal.
Defacing campaign signs is not only illegal it is an attack on our democracy. Talk to candidates directly to express your views and remember to vote not vandalize. #elxn43
