Osoyoos, BC - June 13, 2023 - Volunteer organizers of the Osoyoos Fireworks Committee announced the cancellation of the July 1, 2023, Canada Day Fireworks show that has been a tradition in Osoyoos for the past 25 years.
"Despite commencing the planning of this annual event last February, permitting changes at the municipal level has resulted in numerous requests and delays. These delays have made it impossible for our volunteer committee to plan and execute this world class event by Canada Day.
This event boasts being the largest Canada Day Fireworks Display next to Canada's Parliament Hill celebrations in Ottawa. The volunteers, including the Pyrotechnic team of 12 members, works tirelessly behind the scenes to order, pack and execute the annual event for the enjoyment of families in the community and from across the region. It is estimated that more than 30,000 people attend this event.
"We are deeply proud of our community, volunteers and the success of this event in the past years! This was an emotional decision to make and we are very sad to have to share this news with our Community. We hope we can work with the local council and Fire Chief to bring it back next year!"
More information will be coming soon to the Facebook Page "Osoyoos Fireworks."
