A pedestrian is recovering after a traffic accident in West Kelowna almost took his life over the weekend - RCMP say the quick actions of one of their own may have saved the man.
Corporal Jesse O'Donaghey says on Sunday afternoon at around 1:30 pm, a man tried to cross four lanes of Highway 97 near Butt Road - about 100 metres from a controlled intersection - when he was clipped by a northbound Harley Davidson motorcycle.
He says when police arrived, bystanders were providing first aid to the man, who was suffering from severe blood loss due to a bad leg wound.
O'Donaghey says the officer quickly applied a tourniquet to the man's leg.
"We believe that it was the officer's prompt assessment of the situation, and the decisive actions taken by the officer, that may have saved the man's life and likely contributes to the victim's on-going medical recovery," he says.
O'Donaghey says the pedestrian is a 68-year-old man from Germany, and RCMP, the German Consulate in Toronto and German National Police are continuing efforts to notify his next of kin.
The motorcyclist, a 29-year-old Kelowna man, was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The investigation continues, and so far, no charges have been laid.
