The City of West Kelowna is making sand available to homeowners who need to make sandbags to prevent flooding.
Some typical high-risk areas are Green Bay, Casa Loma and the end of Whitworth Drive.
Bruce Smith at the Central Okanagan Regional District says the low to mid elevation snow melts are starting to come down, and there's been some localized flooding.
"Bertram Creek Regional Park, for example, about a week-and-a-half to two weeks ago, experienced some localized flooding after a major rainfall. It was nothing serious," says Smith "It's all been cleaned up."
Those heavy rains were also blamed for recent flooding along the Gates and Glenrosa road areas.
And Smith says while there's no big concern yet about Mission Creek or Mill Creek spilling their banks, it's a good time for property owners, near streams and the lake, to review flood preparations.
