RCMP renew their warning to the general public, this time to include residents of West Kelowna, who are also being prompted to consider checking the tightness of their automobile’s wheel lug nuts.
On May 15, 2019, RCMP issued a warning to Peachland resident, after received separate reports the day prior of mischief caused to vehicles parked in the 6200-block of Winton Crescent. In both cases, the vehicle owners suspected that the mischievous act was carried out during the over night hours. A total of three vehicles were targeted at the time, all three vehicles had their wheel lug nuts loosened, while at least one of them had gas syphoned from the tank.
This morning just after 11 a.m., West Kelowna RCMP received a comparable complaint, after a Shannon Lake area woman’s front driver’s side tire fell off her Subaru Outback while driving just this past Saturday.
“These reckless acts compromised each of the vehicles and placed at least four lives at unnecessary risk,” states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey of the Kelowna RCMP. “While driving along the highway, one of the victims noticed mechanical issues with the front end of her vehicle and chose to drive to a Kelowna automotive shop, where she learned about the apparent sabotage.”
“In this most recent case, police were told that the wheel fell off while the driver was attempting to return her vehicle home. Thankfully the woman was travelling at slow speeds, and was uninjured in the incident,” further adds Cpl. O’Donaghey.
Residents who find similar damage, are asked to report their discoveries to police, for information purposes at the least. Police are also urging residents to review any video surveillance footage they may have and could be of some assistance.
