Kelowna RCMP are looking to identify a man who unsuccessfully tried to steal an ATM from two different businesses early Wednesday morning.
The first attempt was shortly after 4:30 am at the Esso on Highway 97 near Old Vernon Road in Kelowna. Police say the suspect drove up in a dark pickup truck, smashed a door, and attempted to remove the gas station's ATM with chains, damaging the machine. After giving up, he stole a few items before leaving.
An hour later, West Kelowna RCMP were called to the Landmark Cinemas on Highway 97 near Westside Road where again a suspect used chains to try and remove an ATM from the building.
"RCMP believe that the two crimes are related to one another," said Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey in a news release "Police are asking for the public's help to identify the suspect and ask all witnesses to come forward."
The man is described as caucasian, about 30 to 40 years old, with lighter colored hair and a receding hairline. He was wearing blue jeans, a fleece zip up sweater and a pair of gloves.
