On December 20th, 2017 at approximately 09:45 hrs Kelowna RCMP, BC Ambulance and the Big White Fire Department were called to Big White Ski Resort to assist Ski patrol staff after they recovered a male from the deep snow.
Witnesses advise the male was skiing when he crossed under a closed area rope and fell off a 25-30 foot cliff and landed in the deep snow. Police believe the 60 year old male from Kelowna BC was skiing when he suffered a medical emergency on the hill.
Despite lifesaving efforts, emergency personnel and ski patrol staff were unable to revive the male.
The BC Coroners service has now taken lead of this investigation as the male’s death is not considered criminal in nature. Due to the privacy of the deceased per the Coroners Act and privacy legislation, the Coroners Service will not be releasing or confirming identity.
