A middle aged man is recovering in hospital after a building collapsed on him earlier today.
It happened in the Gill Road area of Glenrosa at around noon.
Assistant Fire Chief Brent Watson says West Kelowna Fire Rescue was called to free the man.
“Our crews responded and what they found on site was a Quonset hut, a fairly new Quonset hut, that had significant snow loading on its roof,” he said “It had collapsed inward and had pinned the lone occupant of the hut”
He says crews had to secure the structure before being able to rescue the man.
“It was pretty unstable, we had it shored up and crews made relief cuts in the actual metal roof system to create a void around the occupant and free him”
The man was taken to Kelowna General by ambulance for what is believed to be serious but non life-threatening injuries.
Watson is reminding people to take caution in and around buildings that may be impacted by heavy amounts of snow.
