Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran is looking forward to ridesharing coming to BC this fall.
In an effort to make sure the regulations are the same for both industries, local cab companies have formed the Okanagan Taxi Association.
"I think it is great that taxi companies have come together to talk about how they can modernize and compete in a new ridesharing economy. I think anything that can enhance the services they provide is a good thing."
Basran says getting ridesharing up and running in BC has been as slow and painful process.
"I have concerns that the provincial government is making some of the requirements too onerous that they won't get off the ground. We need it. We need the service", Basran added.
The province has announced ride hailing services such as Uber and Lyft will be able to begin operating in B.C. next month.
