29-year-old Tyrone Reynolds McGee of West Kelowna has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for attempted murder, in connection to a brazen shooting on August 2nd, 2016.
That morning, 48-year-old Reginald Purdom was sitting in his car outside the Sonic Car Wash in West Kelowna, waiting to complete a drug deal. McGee then suddently rode up to him on a mountain bike and pulled out a handgun equipped with a silencer.
McGee fired several shots at Purdom, hitting him in the leg, arms and back. In retaliation, Purdom pursued McGee as he tried to flee, and hit him with his car before crashing into a light post.
RCMP responded shortly afterwards, and both Purdom and McGee were taken to hospital, with the latter facing the charge of attempted murder, and several firearms charges.
Police determined that the shooting had been planned out, and was likely gang-related.
McGee has been in police custody since his arrest, and pleaded guilty to attempted murder earlier this month.
Before receiving his sentence, McGee expressed remorse for his actions, saying that he looked forward to advancing his life skills and seeking counselling while in prison.
When handing down the sentence, the judge granted McGee an enhanced credit of 933 days spent in police custody.
McGee's defense lawyer was unable to comment following Monday's sentencing.
Prior to the shooting, McGee has a previous criminal record, with past convictions for assault, drug trafficking, and illegal use of a credit card.
