Kelowna RCMP are citing a sudden medical emergency as the most likely cause of a car accident in Rutland.
It happened this afternoon just before 12:30, when the driver suddenly crossed the centre line of Rutland Road North, south of Leathead.
Witnesses say after barely missing the oncoming traffic, the man smashed head-on into a power pole.
The 55-year-old man was taken to hospital for further treatment, and is expected to recover from fairly minor injuries.
Police say that as a follow-up to the driver's medical distress, they've sent in a written recommendation to ICBC, asking them to get the driver to go through a medical test.
The good news from the crash was that the power pole wasn't knocked over, and that none of the overhead lines were damaged.
