The Merritt Visitor Centre is set to close in January as Destination BC continues to reorganize in the age of mobile technology.
But what everybody really wants to know is - what's happening to the washrooms?
"Destination BC knows that it's primarily used as a washroom facility as opposed to a true Vistor Information Centre," says Merritt Chief Administration Officer Shawn Boven.
He says travellers will be happy to know new washrooms are being built up the road on the Okanagan Connector.
"What's happened in the meantime is there will be a couple of other options for travelling motorists. There's a brand new facility being constructed at the Loon Lake Interchange - it's about 20 minutes heading to Kelowna - that's the provincial level response to shutting these washrooms down," says Boven..
The other option is coming into Merritt - Boven says one idea is to open a new visitor centre, with washrooms, in a downtown building across from City hall.
As for the old log visitor's building, Boven says there are no plans yet - but everything on the site, including the concessions, will eventually be dismantled.
