A Lake Country man arrested last weekend for assault is now facing even more serious charges.
39-year-old Lonnie Noel Smith was initially charged with aggravated assault, unlawful confinement, and uttering threats.
This came after Lake Country RCMP responded on Sunday, April 22nd, to a concerned call to a residence on McCreight Road.
There, they found an incoherent Smith, alongside a severely beaten woman, outside the residence.
Smith was arrested at the scene, and following a police investigation, has also been charged with sexual assault and possessing an unlicensed firearm.
He remains in police custody, and his next appearance in court will be on Thursday, May 17th.
The woman involved in the incident continues to recover from her injuries.
