Due to high demand, Interior Health will be opening more immunizations to the public to prevent the spread of Meningococcal Disease in the Okanagan.
The illness, which causes fever, vomiting, and oversensitivity to light, has spread to 11 people in the area, prompting Interior Health to declare an outbreak and open immunization clinics.
There will be immunization clinics at Shoppers Drug Marts in Kelowna, Vernon, and Penticton on December 23rd, the 26th to 29th, and January 2nd to 5th. Vaccines will be available by appointment or drop-in.
The vaccine will be available to people ages 15-19, which are considered the most at-risk age group of the Disease.
