Five Okanagan associations have received funding from the federal government for 2019 - 20.
Receiving a grant will be the Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society, the Kelowna branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association, New Opportunities for Women Canada, the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club and Kelowna’s Gospel Mission.
The funding totals $759,000, and comes from Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Partnering Strategy
The Strategy is a community-based program aimed at preventing and reducing homelessness by providing direct support and funding.
Their goal is to reduce chronic homelessness nationally by 50 per cent by 2028.
To qualify for funding, local programs had to meet two local priorities: housing first and self-sufficiency among homeless individuals and families who are at imminent risk of homelessness.
