Just when we thought we were done with the smoke in Kelowna, it turned out the smoke wasn't done with us.
Shifting winds and some warmer weather mean we're likely to see another round of smoke this week in the Okanagan from wildfires burning across the province.
But Environment Canada meteorologist Lisa Erven has some good news: we probably won't be stuck with it for too long.
“As we get towards late in the week, we have a weather system set to move across the province,” says Erven. “That’s going to bring some cool weather and showers, so there is going to be some improvement in the air quality as we get towards the end of the week.”
When the smoke arrives in the coming days, the Air Quality Health Index is expected to dip into the 4 to 6 range, or a moderate risk to health, with some communities in southern BC possibly getting even worse air quality.
Last month, heavy wildfire smoke lingered over the Okanagan for three straight weeks, with the Air Quality Health Index reaching 10+, or a very high risk to health.
