Central Okanagan secondary schools will have Naloxone on hand next school year.
School District 23 Trustees unanimously approved a motion Wednesday night that will see the kits made available at the schools as a safety precaution.
Board Chairperson Moyra Baxter says Interior Health recommended the move.
“It was recommended that we put these kits into the schools in case there was a need for them,” she said “we are hoping that we will not need them but we feel they should be there in case a situation arose.”
She says they will likely get the nasal spray version of Naloxone as it's easier to use and some school administrators will receive training on administering the medication.
A report to trustees revealed that the district has had reports of a couple of students who self-identified to using Fentanyl off school site and came to school for help.
Several other school districts across B.C. have also made the overdose reversing medication available at their schools.
