National Drive Electric Week kicks off on Saturday September 14th, and to mark the occasion local resident Kent Patterson is hosting his fifth annual event.
This year, it will be held at the McCurdy Corner parking lot in front of the Triple O's from 10a.m. to 2p.m.
Patterson says the goal is to help people learn more about electric vehicles.
“You know they cost a little more money but they save you so much, their super-vehicles, they have very low maintenance so they’re a lot cheaper to run month to month, year to year. There's a lot of interest on electric vehicles and not a lot of places to go to that will answer those questions,” said Patterson.
He claimed his fuel is about a fifth of the cost of a gas car.
“I used to spend about $2,000 in gas back and forth from work every day and now i spend about $400 on electricity.”
There will be over 25 electric vehicles of all types in attendance for you to test drive and check out, including a Nissan Leaf, Electric assist bikes, Checkmate Cabs Hybrids and a representative with Templar electric boats.
