Three new off-leash dog beaches are going to be opened up to the public by Friday of the upcoming long weekend.
City Landscape Design Technician Amy Nyhof says besides signs, the biggest job before then will be installing all fences.
"We have three different dog beaches. One is at Lake Avenue, and we just want to control the interface between pedestrians and cyclists on that pathway, from the dog beach," she said.
"Then there's a fence also going in at the Poplar Point dog beach, because it is so close to the road."
Joining the Lake Avenue and Poplar Point beaches will be a cooling off area down at the Bernard Avenue Sails.
Councillor Charlie Hodge has been an advocate for dog beaches over the years, and spoke in support at Monday's meeting.
"Even though I know it was a bit of a slam dunk, I'm glad we're finally going to be looking at a few options for water parks for dogs this summer. I've been hammering on that one for years" he said..
"I hope that if you are a dog owner, make sure you behave yourself out there when you take your dog to the water, because we're all watching."
The Lake Avenue location was the most controversial one, and council only approved it on the condition it'll be re-evaluated after a couple years.
