Year round field sports will be a reality by this fall in the City of West Kelowna.
Construction has started on the Multisport Dome and Rose Valley Watermain Projects at 2139 McDougall Road. Work on the watermain will begin first and construction will expand over the next few weeks to include the sports dome. Work should wrap up by October 31, shortly after outdoor athletic fields close for winter.
The City awarded the dome construction contract to the lowest qualified bidder, TKI Construction, for $3,085,106. The total budget is $3,547,871 including design, engineering, project management and contingencies. The municipality thanks Westside Youth Soccer for contributing $667,000 toward the project’s costs.
The City awarded the $1,023,740 watermain contract to the lowest qualified bidder, TKI Construction. Including contingencies, the project budget is $1,150,000. The watermain is more than 60-years old and needs replacing.
The combined project costs are in line with what Council budgeted in the 10-year capital plan. The projects will finish by November 2019, as Council requested, to ensure sports teams are holding practices and playing games indoors before the snow falls.
Most work will occur Monday to Friday, excluding holidays, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Minor traffic delays may be occasionally required on McDougall Road in front of Rosewood Sports Field to accommodate prep work, construction traffic and the watermain tie-in to the dome.
