BC Premier John Horgan paid a visit to Davidson Road Elementary School on Thursday afternoon to announce that Lake Country would be receiving a brand new middle school.
The school, which would provide 600 seats for students in grades 6 to 8, is tentatively scheduled to be opened in September of 2021.
The BC Government has put $3.5 million towards the project, with the school district contributing an additional $1.5 million. $3.8 million has already been spend on the land where the school will be built.
While completion of the middle school is a while off, John Horgan says that doesn't take away from its importance.
"This was a priority by the Lake Country Board," says Horgan. "We've acted as quickly as we can to get this up and running, and we have much more to do."
Lake Country schools are currently operating at a quarter over capacity, so this new middle school will be a welcome addition.
Construction will begin in May of next year near George Elliot Secondary School. The old aspen grove golf course will be converted to a playfield for the middle and highschools to share.
