West Kelowna fire officials say 58% of the 65 mobile homes they visited on Westbank First Nation did not have a smoke alarm - or had alarms that were either not working or expired.
West Kelowna Fire Rescue and Westbank First Nation personnel went door to door last week for this year's Fire Prevention Week Campaign called “Look. Listen. Learn. Be Aware. Fire Can Happen Anywhere!"
For those homes without protection - fire personnel installed free smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
Officials say materials in homes today can burn faster than ever - and a working smoke alarm is a vital part of a family escape plan.
