It's been a few weeks since we heard that Peachland's only medical clinic would be closing when the doctor who owns it retires this spring. Peachland Mayor Cindy Fortin has been busy as has municipal staff. She says all five of their doctors will be leaving, so there is a sense of urgency to recruit replacements and keep the clinic open.
The now believe they've found a new director to keep the clinic operational at least temporarily, but recruitment of a new doctor or doctors hasn't produced any candidates as yet. The recruiting people at Central Okanagan Division of Family Practice are handling that effort.
This doctor challenge comes at an inopportune time for Peachland. A new seniors center is about to open within walking distance of the clinic and a new medical labratory has been a success, providing local service where before, the nearest lab was in West Kelowna.
Fortin has promised an update in a couple of weeks.
