CUPE Local 338, the union representing the Kelowna jail guards will not strike on Friday morning. A 72 hour strike notice was given earlier this week but in the meantime both sides entered into binding arbitration.
Commissionaires BC, which employs the guards, released this statement:
"Commissionaires BC is pleased to advise the strike scheduled to begin tomorrow morning has been cancelled, as CUPE has agreed to participate in binding arbitration in order to reach a collective agreement. We have been proposing binding arbitration as a fair and reasonable method to reach a collective agreement for an extended period of time, and are encouraged that the Union has now agreed to this process." - Julie Powers, VP Operations, Commissionaires BC
