Canada's Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence will be in Kelowna tonight for a Town Hall with veterans and their families.
“There’s a lot of cynicism out there, after those 10 years of cuts and cuts and cuts and cuts, and what I’m doing is crossing the country. I’ve had, since January, well over 40 plus town halls. Some of them take place in Legions, some of them take place in small arenas. I go to wherever people are, no matter what the size of the community to talk about what we’re doing,” Seamus O’Regan told The Early Edition with Phil Johnson on Monday.
“So much gets lost on social media. Most veterans, especially younger veterans, are attuned to social media but it’s not always a great place to get the news and it’s not always a great place to be able to explain something that’s a little more complicated. It’s incumbent upon me to get to people where they live, to be able to talk about this in person and to take as much time as I need to explain it,” added O’Regan.
O'Regan says the current Liberal Government has committed over 10 billion dollars for those who served. He calls it “The biggest influx of cash that the Veterans Affairs Department has seen in a generation.”
To speak to the Minister about where that money and future funding will go, head to the Royal Canadian Legion at 1380 Bertram Street at 5:30pm.
