Okanagan College got some extra funding from the federal government on Wednesday.
Kelowna-Lake Country MP Stephen Fuhr announced just over $300,000 would be going towards a new $867,000 Trades Training House on the Kelowna campus.
The 2,700 square foot building will be used for hands-on training for about 300 students and is expected to open in September.
“The Trades Training House will be an important piece of infrastructure in our approach to skill development,” said Okanagan College President Jim Hamilton in a news release. “This will give the trades students a chance to work together on various projects in a real-world setting. It will benefit our apprentice and foundation students but will also be a great tool for some of our special programs, such as Women in Trades and Aboriginal Gateway to the Trades.”
The funding is from the government's Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund.
