Will the second-hand smoke from Oregon and Washington State impact the the grape harvest in the Okanagan Valley?
Jeff Hansen of Gray Monk Estate Winery doesn't think so.
"The positive scenario right now is that, all though there is a lot of smoke in the valley, we have high smoke and the fires are far enough away that ash isn't falling on the grapes."
If the grapes do experience smoke damage, Hansen says all isn't lost.
"I've seen someone tasting and they said this one has smoke taint in it. I saw someone who isn't a wine connoisseur, but they were saying they could smell the smoke. They said, 'it smells like BBQ'. They ended up purchasing six bottles."
The harvesting of the grapes is expected to ramp up in October.
