In a distracted driving crackdown in Kelowna last week, RCMP handed out over 100 tickets.
Police say in a six-hour stretch on Enterprise Way on March 17th, they issued 103 cell-phone violations and 31 tickets for other infractions ranging from no insurance to vehicles defects. 39 warnings were also handed out.
ICBC volunteers also took part in 'Operation Hang Up' holding up signs reminding drivers to leave their cell phones alone - while police were waiting at three locations ticketing those who ignored the message.
Fines for distracted driving were increased last year from $167 dollars to $368.
According to ICBC, drivers are 5 times more likely to crash if they're on their phone.
