The federal government will soon pass a bill to provide pardons to people convicted of simple possession of marijuana.
Critics are saying that's not enough.
Among them is Dr. Lyle Oberg, former Alberta cabinet minister and now Chief Medical Officer of the Okanagan based Flowr Coporation, a marijuana company.
Oberg says convictions for simple possession should be expunged. The reason for that is when expunged, all personal data on record, including fingerprints is eliminated from the system. Oberg says the problem with what the government is proposing is that a database is retained with information on all people pardoned. Therefore he says, the government needs to go further.
Oberg told the AM 1150 Early edition that any time there is a background check, those records will show up unless expunged.
