Mill Creek Regional Park has re-opened to foot traffic. The 15.3-hectare regional park, located just northeast of Kelowna International Airport, has been closed since 2017 spring flooding caused extensive damage to bridges and the parking area.
Regional District of Central Okanagan, Communications Officer, Bruce Smith says, “Thanks to the efforts of our Parks Operations team, they’ve removed tons of flood debris and made enough repairs to the trails, boardwalk and pedestrian bridge to allow visitors on foot, back into the park. The access road into the park was elevated to increase protection for infrastructure and homes backing onto the park and to direct stream flows under Spencer Road. Until the parking area is restored, we’re asking visitors to park safely along the side of Spencer Road and not to block any driveways of our neighbours.”
A new vehicle bridge is needed over Mill Creek. Work will start in August and be completed by this fall.
Pebble Beach Park, located at the end of Whitworth Road in West Kelowna, will reopen to the public tomorrow. The park has been closed since January to allow the Regional District of Central Okanagan to install a new outfall line through the park from the Westside Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant to Okanagan Lake.
Pebble Beach is open from 6 a.m. to dusk. The park features a sandy beach, a volleyball court, benches, tables and a portable washroom.
