During this flood emergency we've heard a lot about preparing an emergency kit for family members, but it's also important to remember your pets.
Dr. Oz, at Rose Valley Veterninary Hospital in West Kelowna, says a pet grab-and-go bag should have everything your pet needs for a minimum of three days, including extra supplies.
"Your pet grab bag should contain food and medication, if the dog or cat is on medication, a bowl to put the food in and for water, and something warm like a coat against the rain; anything that's necessary for an emergency," he says.
Dr. Oz says it's also important, if you're being evacuated and need to stay in a hotel, make sure the hotel allows pets - or make arrangements with pet-friendly family members or friends to take care of your animals.
He says as in the past - during emergencies like wildfires - anyone who has been evacuated can bring their pets to the Rose Valley Veterinary Hospial to have them looked after free of charge.
Dr. Oz says so far, they haven't had any evacuated pets dropped off, and that could be because people are better prepared during this crisis.
